“Whether times are good or bad, happy or sad… Let’s stay together!” #AlGreen

Whether you’re planning an unforgettable Valentine’s Day, a special anniversary, or even a mini-vacay to reignite the passion, romance is always in the air in Memphis—if you know where to look.

Here is a list of the most romantic places in Memphis, all guaranteed to ignite some sparks:

  • Atop the Bluff Walk: Really, any spot where the views include the Mississippi River are romantic. But the Bluff Walk high above Riverside Drive is a long stretch filled with people out for evening strolls and runs. Grab a bench and watch the river gently flow by.
  • Beale Street Historic District: Beale became the home of the blues at the turn of the 20th century – a waypoint along the trail from the Mississippi Delta to Chicago. Today, the clubs and restaurants on Beale proper still move to the beat of the blues. The FedEx Forum – home to the NBA’s Grizzlies – sits just off Beale, and a variety of hotels, museums and eateries are within a short walk from the famous street.
  • Dixon Gallery and Gardens: Since 1976, this museum has housed a spectacular Impressionist collection including Degas, Monet and Pisarro, and the collection of art is rivaled only by the gorgeous gardens surrounding what was once one of Memphis’ finest estates.
  • Memphis Botanic Garden: With almost 100 acres of gardens set in the middle of East Memphis, there’s something for any lover of the outdoors at MBG, including the serenity of a Japanese garden, a huge herb garden, and a sensory garden. With a myriad of picnic tables and spaces, a natural play structure, a cabin, and plenty of colorful flowers and plants.
  • Memphis Riverboat Cruises: Board an authentic paddlewheel riverboat cruise with Memphis Riverboats at Beale Street Landing. As the boat moves gently along the Mississippi River under the massive bridge, that’s the perfect time for a kiss.
  • Memphis Zoo: The Memphis Zoo is consistently rated one of the top zoos in the country, both for its breadth of exhibits in an easy-to-navigate layout and for the sheer fact that one can get pretty close to the animals in almost every habitat. With giant pandas from China, a Teton ecosystem replete with grizzly bears and wolves, and a Northwest Passage habitat filled with polar bears and river otters, this is a top-notch zoo that will enchant both kids and their parents.
  • The Peabody Rooftop: Ride up the elevator to the top of The Peabody Memphis and walk out to the rooftop where more than a few wedding proposals have occurred. You don’t have to go to the top to get on one knee; a romantic kiss overlooking Downtown Memphis will do just fine.
  • Pyramid Observation Deck: Having an observation deck at the top of the Pyramid has been a city dream since the arena opened in 1991. It became a reality when the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid opened in April 2014.
  • The Wolf River Greenway: The Wolf River Greenway runs through Memphis and Germantown, and is part of the longer Greater Memphis Greenline that will eventually connect Collierville to downtown Memphis. The Wolf runs along the Wold River, and includes a wide paved path for non-motorized activity.

While Memphis is known for our casual foods like savory wings and smoky barbecue, there’s always the right time to sit down for a white table cloth dinner. It’s time to get dressed up, grab a special someone (or even treat yourself), and head to some of Memphis’ finest restaurants. Here are just a handful of some of the city’s upscale dining options!

Whether you’re visiting family and friends in Memphis or exploring the town you call home, these downtown Memphis restaurants are sure to get you feelin’ fancy.

No. 1: Folk’s Folly Prime Steakhouse

Memphis’ original prime steakhouse, Folk’s Folly, has been serving the residents of Memphis since 1977. With intimate lighting, private dining and a cozy lounge, Folks Folly Prime Steakhouse is the perfect place for a quiet, relaxing evening with your closest family members.

No. 2: Flight Restaurant and Wine Bar

If Folk’s Folly Prime Steakhouse is Southern hospitality, then Flight Restaurant and Wine Bar is full-on contemporary. A modern, sophisticated restaurant where small plates are served alongside taster glasses of wine, Flight Restaurant is a unique experience and a great way to start an evening.

No. 3: Chez Philipe

Of course, the cities fanciest hotel has some pretty swanky dining options. The Peabody Hotel’s Chez Phillipe, which features French cuisine, is the perfect place for an upscale dinner. Whether you’re stopping in after the evening duck march or staying in the hotel, a meal at this restaurant can’t be missed. Want an inside tip? Try out the Peabody’s afternoon tea. It’s perfect for anyone looking to feel like royalty.

No. 4: The Gray Canary

Situated near the Mississippi River (with a pretty great view of the M bridge’s light show), The Gray Canary features the ultimate classy dining experience. Smoke and char is the name of this restaurant’s game, so expect most of your meal to have some of Memphis’ signature flame flavors. With a rotating menu that reflects ingredients that are in season, you can find unique menu items that you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere in the city (we’re looking at you octopus).

No. 5: Restaurant Iris

Chef Kelly English’s restaurant is an Overton Square favorite. This sleek restaurant matches the vibe of the creative menu inspired by Southern favorites. This plus their outstanding cocktail menu makes for a great upscale dining experience.

Romantic restaurants in Memphis: Italian cuisine, classic Southern fare, craft beer, high-end cocktails… culinary options abound in Memphis. If you’re looking for some romantic restaurants in Memphis, these are our favorite places in the city to get dinner for two!

The Enjoy A|M Restaurant Group

From Bishop and Catherine and Mary’s to The Gray Canary and Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen, Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman have created some amazingly vibey and, most importantly, delicious restaurants in the city! From the menus to decor, all of their spots definitely qualify as some of the most romantic restaurants in Memphis. No matter which one you take your special someone to, you’re bound to have an outstanding time and meal!

The Beauty Shop

This quirky eatery in the Cooper-Young neighborhood of Midtown Memphis was once actually a beauty shop (where Priscilla Presley got her famous beehive hairdos done). In fact, it still feels like one—hooded Belvedere hair dryers and all. It also serves some really delectable food, whether you’re on a brunch day-date or looking for a fun dinner-and-cocktails spot. The Bloody Mary and eggs Sardou combo is a brunch favorite, and the cast-iron-roasted whole fish with grilled sweet corn, cotija, aioli and cayenne salt is a highlight of the dinner menu.

Acre

Tucked away in East Memphis, Acre is the perfect spot to experience a modern menu that stays true to the chefs’ Southern roots while still giving you a taste of the entire world. Dishes like tuna tartare, duck confit black rice, and braised short ribs are sure to wow even the pickiest of dates!

The Majestic Grille

Located in the heart of Downtown Memphis, The Majestic Grille is a modern American steakhouse with a fun 1940s-inspired ambiance. Built in 1913, the venue served as a silent movie house for many years, and it still hosts classic movies, dance shows, art performances and music to this day. Meanwhile, the kitchen turns out outstanding New York strip steaks, filet mignon and bone-in rib eye, plus some delicious seafood options.

Salt | Soy

In the mood for Japanese food but want something a little more special than your every day ramen and sushi? Salt|Soy is the perfect place! This restaurant has everything you love about your favorite, casual Japanese restaurant and elevates it to a whole new level. With some selections that stay true to the region’s Southern cuisine, it’s the perfect combination of flavors. Pro tip: We totally recommend the Karaage chicken, chicken fried chicken and dumpling dumplings, and chili crab udon!
